Directed the dissertation work of 62 Ph.D. students and the thesis or creative component work of 26 M.S. students.

 

CONTRACTS AND GRANTS

  • Currently principal investigator or participant on research agreements with Natural Resources Conservation Service, National Agricultural Statistics Service and Census Bureau.
  • Has been  an investigator on agreements with the Agricultural Research Service, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and various state and private organizations.

 

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • Member of American Agricultural Economics Association, American Statistical Association (Fellow), Biometric Society, Econometric Society (Fellow), Institute of Mathematical Statistics (Fellow), International Statistical Institute (elected member).
  • Served on editorial boards of American Journal of Agricultural Economics (formerly Journal of Farm Economics), Journal of the American Statistical Association, American Statistician, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, and Survey Methodology.
  • Served on three National Academy of Science Panels, Rural Development Statistics, Decennial Census Methodology, and Estimates of Poverty for Small Geographic Areas; and served as a member of Committee on National Statistics.
  • Held numerous offices in the American Statistical Association including Chair of the Business and Economic Statistics Section and Chair of the Survey Research Methods Section. Served a three-year term as National Vice President, 1991-1993.
  • Served on many national and international committees, including the Advisory Committee on Statistical Methods, (currently chair) Statistics Canada; Survey Research Methods Group on the Technical Aspects of the Survey of Income and Program Participation, and AAEA/ERS/NASS Task Force on Economic and Environmental Data Needs.

 

OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Consultant to Doane Market Research and Garst Seed Co. (now ICI).
  • Has consulted with A. C. Nielsen.
  • Acted as a consultant to Ford Foundation Mexico and to Peruvian Department of Agriculture through the Iowa Mission.
